DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS:  Prior to beginning employment/volunteer service, all persons involved with minors on a regular, recurring basis and those who would have the opportunity to be alone with children during parish, school or religious education sponsored events are required to present the following:

▪ Results of a criminal background investigation (subject to the conditions of the   Diocese of Joliet).

▪ Written acknowledgement that the person has read and understood the Pastoral Policy Regarding Sexual Abuse of Minors and the Standards of Behavior for Those Working with Minors.  (Both documents may be downloaded at

▪ Proof of attendance at a Protecting God’s Children program. (Proof of previous completion of the program will be accepted.) 

The above documentation is to be obtained prior to anyone being hired or being permitted to volunteer, and is to be kept on file.


REPORTING ABUSE TO DCFS: In the event that a report of suspected abuse is made to DCFS by phone, persons are to follow-up with a written report.  See for a report form. The form is identified as CANTS 5 Written Confirmation of Suspected Child Abuse.

COMPLAINT PROCEDURES:  To be in compliance with the Charter for Protection of Children and Young People, it is required that procedures for persons making a complaint about sexual abuse are to be readily available in printed form in each parish of the diocese in the principal languages in which the liturgy is celebrated. (Article 2, Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People)

The following notice is to be printed in parish bulletins on a monthly basis:

REPORTING SEXUAL ABUSE: Anyone who has reasonable cause to suspect the sexual abuse of a minor by a member of the clergy or other Church personnel is urged to report the matter immediately.

Contact DCFS at 1-800-252-2873 or call the office of the local County States Attorney.

It is important that all parishioners know how to report abuse and to whom reports ought to be made.
